The Porefessional

What The Product Says:
What it is:
A professional balm that minimizes the appearance of pores.

What it does:
Quickly minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines and help
make-up stay put with this priming phenomenon. The silky and lightweight formula can be worn under make-up to create a
smoother-than-smooth canvas or used throughout the day to mattify shine and touch up problem areas. It’s so translucent, no one will know you’re wearing anything!

What else you need to know:
The oil-free formula contains vitamin E, which is known to protect skin from free radicals.

Suggested Usage:
-To prime in the morning: Apply a thin layer of this PRO balm to moisturized skin from the center of the face outward. Wait a few seconds and apply makeup as usual or wear alone.
-To touch up over makeup: If pores come out of hiding, pat delicately over makeup on problem areas and blend. Remember, just a dab’ll do ya!
-To smooth on a brighter face: Give your POREfect complexion an instant perk-me-up! Layer the POREfessional smoothing balm over "That Gal" Brightening Face Primer.
-To lock down your look: To help foundation stay put, always start with the POREfessional. Then blend Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow from the center of the face, out. Skin will look smooth and flawless all day long.
-To spot-conceal: Apply the POREfessional over blemishes, then blend Boi-ing on top. It'll keep skin looking smooth and lock the industrial-strength concealer in place.
 - To rock the photo op: Prime face with the POREfessional to minimize the look of pores and mattify skin. Apply your favorite Benefit makeup products...then reapply the POREfessional. The lens will love you!

REVIEW:
There has been a lot of hype regarding Benefit's The POREfessional. You get to read a lot of mixed reviews about it. Some love it.. some hate it. Some think it works best for them.. some say it's pricey. Let me just say that this product depends from person to person. It might work for your sister with the same skin type but not for you.
I found out that Benefit was giving a sample kit for almost half the actual amount and thanks to my family living in States, they got me one. I haven't bought it.
I have been using it for about nine months now. Here are my thoughts about it.

There are two ways of using this primer.
1. Underneath your foundation as an overall primer.
2. On top of your make-up on troubled areas.

When applying POREfessional make sure you apply it with fingers, from the center of the face outward, patting into pore areas/fine lines and then sweeping across.

This is my go-to primer, especially for the t-zone. And the best part is a little goes a long way. It can make you a bit shiny or cakey if you over apply so don't use too much as it is extremely concentrated.

I have combination skin with little pores on my nose and visible pores on my left inner cheek area. Most of the time I usually just use this over my T-zone and the apple of my cheeks where my pores are most prominent and then use a regular primer around the rest of my face. I also love to it use on 'no make up' days as it is oil free and helps to completely mattify the skin. It is excellent to hide my pores and any small imperfections. But if you have really large pores and expect it to hide them, it might not work for you.

This primer fills my pores in but does not break me out. Having this product filling your pores means that your foundation won't be filling and clogging your pores and should also help prevent blackheads. As the product claims it is also good to fill fine lines and wrinkles, I can't review on that as I don't have any fine lines or wrinkles. What it surely does is it makes my skin feel smooth and silky. I can wear my moisturizer and the primer and it will create the perfect canvas for my make-up. It lets my liquid foundation glide on flawlessly. I have never had the problem about it balling up. I gently pat/smooth it in to my skin and wait a couple of minutes before applying my foundation. The coverage lasts up to 4 hours before my t-zone starts to get oily again, so I have to use my powder. I think the longevity will be better if you use a matte foundation.

The fancy packaging is what Benefit is famous for and I absolutely love it. It has a light floral scent which does not last for long.

It's tinted but does not change the colour of my skin or foundation for me at least. But my friend has fair skin and according to her this product underneath her foundation made her looked darker. I have a wheatish complexion and I didn't face any such problem with the product. If you like silicone primers and they don't break you out, it's worth a try.

For me this is my HG primer. Though it comes in a small tube but you only need a small amount. Like I have 0.25fl oz (7.5ml) tube. It's almost 9 months old now and I still have a good amount left to keep me going for a while longer as I don't use it everyday. I would definitely re-purchase it.

PROS:
  • Hides visible pores.
  • Powdery texture, velvety almost, smooth to spread over face.
  • Doesn't leave a greasy feeling.
  • My foundation doesn't slide off my face.
  • Foundation longevity isn't compromised.
  • Foundation colour isn't changed because of it.
  • No balling of the product when I put my foundation on.
  • Does not disturb by moisturiser underneath.
  • Light scent that does not linger.
  • Does not break out or clogs pores.
  • Lovely packaging. Travel-friendly.
  • Squeeze tube with a small tiny hole for the product to come out of, very hygienic and can control the amount that comes out.

CONS:

  • You expect it to control oil for long hours.
  • You are allergic to silicone.
  • You expect it to hide very large pores.
  • You find it pricey.
  • It doesn't work for you.

MY RATING:
4.5/5

You can purchase it online from Benefit's website.

If you find Benefit The POREfessional heavy on your purse, Garnier's Perfect Blur 5 sec Smoothing Base Perfector is definitely comparable to it and I would consider this to be a good drugstore dupe at a fraction of the cost.
